Thank you from Marianne McCarty

Hello Karen,

Our Trip was fabulous… exceeded my expectations in all areas.

Marianne McCarty, Rose Fajardo and Colleen Berry

I cannot thank you enough for all of your suggestions, everyone one of them was on the mark. Tours and guides were excellent and full of stories related to the history of your country along with their own personal family history. Amazing group of people; they were all awesome.

I’m sure Colleen will fill you in on the food and wine… She’s the foodie I’m only the guest who follows her suggestions and I’m always pleased and satisfied.

You might ask what was the highlight of the trip… cannot say… would need some time to sort it out… right now I’m still on cloud nine.

Thank you for everything Karen, you made my trip Down Under so special and one that I’ll savor for a very long time.

Australia Day Celebrations!

Celebrated since 1818, all manner of gala events take place nationwide that celebrate Australia’s birthday.

Australia Day

Once a day of colonial pomp and circumstance with much flag raising, citizenship ceremonies and the presentation of community awards, Australia Day now belongs to the Aussies who, in all our guises, celebrate modern Australia’s diverse community, remarkable achievements and bright future.  Sailing regattas, gourmet picnics, firework displays, surf carnivals on beaches, concerts in city parks, formal ceremonies and family entertainment are all part of this day of frivolity.

In Sydney The Harbor is the focus for many of the local festivities.  Traditionally thousands of spectators gather to watch Sydney’s commuter ferries battle it out for the coveted title of Ferry Champion in The Annual Ferrython.  Later the Harbor will fill with a spectacular array of tall ships heading a waterborne Australia Day Parade. In their wake will be a colorful display of barges, cranes, ferries, tugs, yachts, and tour boats all swathed in brightly colored flags and audacious decorations as part of the Best Dressed Vessels Competition.

Every year Darling Harbor hosts Sydney’s biggest Australia Day celebrations with an impressive line-up of free entertainment for all the family. From early in the day Darling Harbor stages the grandest of celebrations all around the precinct including face painting and interactive shows for the kids, an all-day feast of international food, performing artists, music and live bands. Creating a majestic finale to the day, a parade of tall ships sails around Cockle Bay set the scene for a dazzling extravaganza of fireworks, digital effects, pyrotechnics and music. Australia Day at Darling Harbor has become one the biggest events on the Sydney event calendar and in 2004 attracted crowds of almost 200,000 people.

The celebrations continue with evening concerts like Jazz On The Water and draw to a close in amazing fashion with the Darling Harbor Spectacular laser, lighting and fireworks display.

Be a mate and join in the festivities!  Contact us and we’ll customize a once in a lifetime adventure to the GLORIOUS South Pacific that puts you right in the heart of the action!

The Australian Open Heats Up Melbourne

Tennis anyone? Whether you “love” the singles, doubles or mixed doubles competition, the only Grand Slam tennis tournament held in the Southern hemisphere, the Australian Open, is certain to heat up Melbourne this January.

Considered the Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open matches begin on the 16th of January with final rounds concluding on the 29th. Two main courts, Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena, host a majority of the matches where players volley day and night during fierce competition against the best tennis players in the world.

With a rich history of over 100 years, the inaugural tournament, firstly known as the Australasian Championships, took place in 1905 on a grass court of the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.  In time, the event faded into obscurity as top tennis players from around the world found it difficult to travel to Australia before the advent of air travel. Revived in 1988, the tournament moved to the newly built National Tennis Centre at Flinders Park, currently known as Melbourne Park, to accommodate the growing number of fans, in part, because of the popularity of tennis legends like Andre Agassie, Mats Wilander and Ivan Lendl.

So popular is the sport today, that in 2010 over 650,000 Aussies and travelers from around the world, gathered to cheer on their favorite competitors and ultimately watch Serena Williams come out on top in the singles and doubles competition. Roger Federer went on serve up a win in the singles competition and was handsomely rewarded with the coveted Norman Brookes trophy, named after the Aussie who was the first non-Briton to win the men’s singles at Wimbledon and was also a major figure in establishing the Australian Open, which he won in 1911.

Want to be a part of the action?  Call us to design a customized itinerary around the excitement of the Australian Open and we will weave your dreams into the adventure of a lifetime.

For the first time ever, three twinkling Telecom Christmas trees will be displayed, bringing the joy of the season to New Zealanders at Te Wero Island on Auckland’s busy waterfront, Waitangi Park in Wellington and in the heart of Christchurch at Hagley Park.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors gather each year to take in the awe and splendor of the seven story Telecom Christmas trees as they burst to life when 375,000 twinkling light bulbs illuminate the sky at dusk each night and warmly glow until the break of day.

Featuring a light sequence that offers 16 million color combinations, this dazzling show not only delights crowds of all ages, but also in the true spirit of Christmas, gives back as gifts are collected for the children of Christchurch who have been affected by tough economic times.

Sydney, New Years Eve Capital of the World

The countdown is on!  With only 43 days remaining until New Years Eve, one of the most anticipated nights and parties of the year, we Aussies simply cannot think of a better place than Sydney to celebrate its arrival.

Join the Sydneysiders as we celebrate the arrival of the New Year and the commencement of the Sydney Festival under starry skies.  Each year Sydney celebrates this special night with a lineup of events that begin with spectacular aerial flyovers high above Sydney Harbour and keep going until well after midnight. The highlights, of course, are the two spectacular firework displays that take place over Sydney Harbour.

The 9 p.m. family fireworks are designed and choreographed specifically for children and feature accompanying music in an upbeat and fun atmosphere that the whole family will love.  When the clock strikes midnight, Sydney lights up the night sky, once again, this time to ring in the New Year. A dazzling fireworks display is launched from seven barges lining Sydney Harbour, the rooftops of seven city skyscrapers, and most impressively, from the Sydney Harbour Bridge itself.  It is truly a  spectacular display that is best appreciated in person.

As one of the first cities to ring in the New Year, Sydney is proudly known by many as the New Years Eve capital of the world. Each year more than 1.5 million people gather to be a part of the festivities, making it one of the best times of the year to take in all that Sydney has to offer. So give us a fair go (a chance) and join us for the celebration of the year!

Christmas Down Under

Beautiful decorations and holiday anthems fill the warm summer air and although the temperatures are rising in the heat of summer, Down Under we are preparing our hearts for Christmas.  While it may seem unimaginable to think of Christmas without snow, we Aussies just wouldn’t have it any other way.

Christmas day activities often include heading outdoors to soak up some sun and sand at the beach, swimming, a game of cricket or gathering with mates to slip a shrimp on the “barbie” (barbeque).

If you’re feeling like a “kook” (a beginner surfer) head down to Bondi Beach, one of Australia’s most famous and well-known beaches, where up to 40,000 people visit on Christmas day. Even Santa is known to shed his suit and ride the surf dressed in only his swimmers (swimsuit).

For a tradition rich in history, don’t miss Melbourne’s Carols by Candlelight, a Christmas Eve gathering, held at the Myer Music Bowl.  Set outdoors Aussies gather, their blankets spread out on the ground, to light candles and sing Christmas carols, some traditional and some with an Aussie flair.  Started in Melbourne, Australia in 1937 by radio announcer, Norman Banks, to relieve the loneliness and isolation sometimes felt during the holidays, this annual event has grown from a handful of attendees to a live broadcast that reaches Eastern Asia, many Pacific Islands and New Zealand.

When it’s time for Christmas dinner many still gather around the family table to enjoy traditional meals of roast pork, cold ham off the bone, an abundance of seafood, plum pudding, fruit mince pies and rich Christmas cake.  Many also venture outdoors to join mates for a picnic in the bush or at the beach.

It’s not too late to break out the passports and sunscreen and join us Down Under where we celebrate Christmas in a tropical paradise.

Melbourne, Australia Hosts The President’s Cup

One of the most anticipated golf events of the year, The President’s Cup, is quickly approaching.

The President’s Cup, a biennial event played in non-Ryder Cup years, this year hosted by Royal Melbourne Golf Club, features events and competitions taking place November 15th-20th.

The eagerly awaited, renowned competition dates back to 1994 and pits the winningest American Team against the International Team. Developed to give the world’s best non-European players an opportunity to compete in an international team match-team competition, the attraction has become one of the most highly watched events in all of golf.

Founded in 1891 and honored as the first golf club to host the overseas event twice; competition will take place on the Composite Course of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, where the event is comprised of 12 holes from the West Course and 6 from the East Course.

Opening ceremony, the formal celebration, commences Tournament week and includes the presentation of the teams, team Captains, and dignitaries from around the world.

Leading the U.S. is Team Captain, Fred Couples, who led his team to victory in 2009 and will head up a roster of well known golf pros including Phil Mickelson, who has played in every President’s Cup competition and Tiger Woods, who is making his 7th President’s Cup appearance.

Heading up the International team is Team Captain, Greg Norman, who has appeared three times in the President’s Cup, including a match up against Fred Couples in 1998, where he went on to lead the International team to its only outright victory.

With only 11 days left until tee off don’t “fore”get to head to the sidelines and cheer on your favorite team during this epic event.
