Hi Karen,

We wanted to let you know how truly fabulous our trip to Australia and New Zealand has been. Both countries showed us a great time – the hotels, tours, hospitality shown by Gary and Dietske at The Manse…I really could go on and on.   This was a trip of a lifetime. Howard and I always felt we were in great hands. Thank you again for planning such a diverse, well rounded, fun, educational and carefree vacation for us!  We are grateful to have worked with you and Wendy.  We are experienced travelers who have visited many countries on our bucket list.  This is the first trip we have taken where we feel a burning desire to make a return visit to explore new areas and meet even more of the laid back friendly locals.

We used Australia 2000 Travel to plan our honeymoon to New Zealand. Karen planned an amazing honeymoon for us that allowed us to experience the country like a local rather than just going to all of the tourist destinations. We met with her and told her our budget and what we enjoyed.  She handled everything else and developed a customized itinerary for us. The day before our trip started a major earthquake hit New Zealand. Karen and her crew worked tirelessly to rearrange our trip so that we stayed safe and away from the impacted area.

She communicated frequently and had our new itinerary to us before we made it to the airport.  All the accommodations that she booked for us were astounding with amazing views. Everything from our progressive wine dinner to our trip to Doubtful Sound couldn’t have been better. She included numerous sites to see and places to eat at every city we visited as well. This was our first time to New Zealand and our first time using a travel agent and were extremely impressed with both.  We highly recommend Australia 2000 Travel!

 Thanks,

 Hillary and Andrew

It would of seemed impossible to explore the destinations we visited without the transportation your team provided. Every pilot, captain, guide and work staff were so friendly and informative. This was surely an historical, cultural trip for us. Thanks again, to all the people we met on this trip thru your booking.

We really had fun in beautiful Sydney, going to all the delightful spots. Just a great city and full of historical culture. Loved the beaches, all thru Australia, wow!

Thanks again Karen, job well done.

Sincerely,

Ellen Moellering

Hi Karen,

Our New Zealand trip was fabulous!!  NZ is so beautiful and far exceeded my expectations.  We really enjoyed our vacation.  People are super nice and very punctual.  We were picked up promptly and all the flights were on time.  We loved all of the tours you arranged for us.  Eden House and Doubtful Sound Cruise were definitely the highlights of our trip.

Thank you so much for all your help!!  We’ll definitely contact you next time when we are ready to visit Australia and New Zealand again. 🙂

Best,

Vivian

Thank you from Chris & Sandy Mullins

Our trip was organized by Karen Hodgson and her brilliant team of professionals. Our trip was tailored to suit our requirements. It is a “bespoke” vacation for the individual taste of a couple or any number of travelers. Karen organizes customized vacations to Australia/New Zealand/South East Asia. My wife and I are in our 60’s, so we are limited to what we can physically do but are not disabled. All the designated times of pick-up, no matter how early in the morning to take us to the airport/train station, they were there! Even by BMW 7 series!! How good is that? Australia 2000 Travel is exceptional in its professionalism.  They seem to have an invisible team of people who just turn up at the appropriate time to transport you to your next destination with effortless ease!! I cannot say enough about this company!! Karen is “off the scale professional” …. she is an “Ozzy” and knows everything about Australia and New Zealand! I recommend “Australia 2000Travel” to anybody who wishes to experience an adventure to the lands “Down Under”.  Whether you wish to travel with 40 other people or even alone…. she will organize a trip to suit you.  “Australia 2000 Travel” is off the scale.

Dear Karen,

We are pleased with our custom trip to Australia and Tasmania. We enjoyed our excursions – Davidson’s Safari Camp, Flinders Range, Kangaroo Island, and Tasmania.

Morton - Flinders Ranges 2015

We enjoyed Davidson’s Safari Lodge a lot. We had excellent meals. The cabin was comfortable and the guides were excellent. We enjoyed seeing the aborigines’ art and the billabongs. We saw a number of birds, alligators, and wallabies.

Mick is an excellent guide. We enjoyed his sense of humor and knowledge of the area around Flinders Range. We learned a lot from him. It is a beautiful area. We saw the wildflowers in full bloom.

Steve was our guide on Kangaroo Island. He is a farmer and works as a guide part time. Steve and Scott enjoyed talking about their farms. Steve gave us a tour of his farm which we thoroughly enjoyed. Mandy and Paul, the owners of Seascape were excellent hosts. Mandy is a great cook and the meals were delicious.

Adelaide was the perfect place to be our jumping off point from Flinders Range to Kangaroo Island to Tasmania and the Adina Apartment Hotel served us well. The hotel is within walking distance to Chinatown which has a very good selection of Asian restaurants, and Rundle mall for shopping.

I found some very warm merino gloves for the forecasted cooler weather in Tasmania. Having a washing and dryer in the unit was very helpful. We started our 6 days in Tasmania with a full load of clean clothes.  Also having a small kitchen in the unit allowed us to purchase food for a continental breakfast.

Karin was our guide in Tasmania. In addition to being very knowledgeable about the area, she is very thoughtful and helpful. She surprised us with a gift for our 25th anniversary. I just happened to mention it to her. We didn’t want to publicize the event, but we appreciated her thoughtfulness.

We enjoyed Sarah Island, Cradle Mountain, all the walks, Cataract Gorge, the Walk to Wineglass Bay lookout, seeing and learning about all the rock formations.

We felt the organization and coordination of the drivers and guides were excellent. We enjoyed the adventures, learning about the history and seeing the beautiful views of Australia.

Thank you for such a nice job.

Karen,

Well, we’re back, and we had an absolutely wonderful time.  We have traveled a fair amount, and this was my all-time favorite trip.  Australia is such an amazing country–the people, the food, the sights, the activities.

You did a wonderful job planning everything.  We all agree that you put the four destinations in the right order, and you had a nice mix of different types of activities.

I am one of the most organized people I know, and your booklet and vouchers met even my high standards.  Every evening I would look at the itinerary for the next day and pull any necessary vouchers.

Thanks for the welcome bottle of wine and fruit in Melbourne too.

We all wish it were two weeks ago and that we were just starting our Aussie adventure!

Angela

Thank you from Rick Kaufman

Hi Karen,

As Camilla and I wait to board our plane from New Zealand for a long journey home, we write to thank you for putting together a most wonderful six week adventure in Australia and New Zealand. It’s difficult to choose a favorite spot. I have been to a lot of spectacularly beautiful places in the world but none surpass Lord Howe Island off the coast of New South Wales.

When flying from Sydney to New Zealand we thought nothing could possibly top our initial three weeks in Australia.  We left with such a love for your country and an appreciation for every single excellent accommodation you provided us.   Now as we discuss it, we cannot choose between the two countries. Apples and oranges but equally sweet. We leave New Zealand with so much appreciation for this place . . . the beauty just never ends.

Rick Kaufman photo

Although we were initially worried about all the strenuous activities you had scheduled for us we are extremely glad we missed none of them.   Each hike turned out to be truly memorable – especially the three days on the Routeburn Track that was simply spectacular.  Every kayak experience was stunning.  We were apprehensive about the seven hour caving and rock climbing adventure in Waitomo but loved it.  We had never done anything like that before.  It was exhilarating, thrilling and we were captivated by the beautiful glow worms.  It was like looking at the Galaxy on a beautiful clear night.

You did a great job!

Hi Karen,

My entire foodie trip in the Lands Down Under went off with nary a hitch. The business class flights were the best splurge I’ve given myself in years!

MEL - Downtown from Mary Jo Drew

The Hotel Lindrum in Melbourne was well positioned with easy access to shopping and attractions.  The Lanes and Arcades tour is an absolute must for anyone visiting Melbourne for the first time. As our guide pointed out, by not knowing to look down the city’s narrow alleyways many Americans would walk right past them and miss out on so much vibrant local culture.

There is so much colorful history in Melbourne.  At our guide’s advice, I even stopped in and had a drink upstairs with the famous Chloe in her namesake bar across from Flinders Railway Station!  The Yarra Valley winery tour was great fun. I really enjoyed seeing the Chandon Estate and didn’t realize Chandon had a vineyard in Australia!

Hobart in Tasmania was a really nice respite after the hustle and bustle of Melbourne.  The Old Woolstore Hotel was so close to the downtown area and harbor that I was able to walk virtually the entire downtown during my stay.  My private tour and lunch at the Morilla Estate was fantastic though the artwork at MONA came as a bit of a shock!   The trip to Bruny Island was great.  The weather started out very rainy but by noon everything cleared out and I had a lovely day.

And then came Queenstown in beautiful New Zealand. The Dairy may have been my favorite accommodation – had I not stopped at The Manse later!  The view, room, breakfasts and staff service were all superlative.  I also enjoyed the hot tub on the back deck – a great place to sip wine while enjoying the view!  Although the weather was on again, off again, I had mostly great weather for my wanderings about town, the public garden, and the narrow streets.  I also enjoyed great meals at a couple of unique tapas bars on Lake Wakatipu.  The Doubtful Sound trip was quite majestic, but as The Sound is so remote it was a very long day. The winery tour to Otago was great and the charcuterie lunch was quite good.

NPE - The Manse view from Mary Jo Drew

Lastly came Hawkes Bay. I knew I was in for a treat when I saw the plane I’d be flying on the leg from Christchurch to Napier – a regional aircraft not unlike some I have been on in the Pacific Northwest!  After staying at The Manse and being totally spoiled by the fantastic accommodation, the pool, the drinks before dinner, Gary’s sumptuous meals, and his and Dietske’s hospitality, I can only say that I wish I had had spent more time there!  My guide on the winery tour had spent years in the business himself, and it showed in his insights into the various wineries and producers.  My tour of Napier with Gary on the last day of my trip certainly cemented my wish to spend more time in stunning Hawkes Bay.

The trip was spectacular and I will have great memories to share for years to come.  Thanks for all your help in making this happen!

Best wishes,

Mary Jo

Geiser & Witherell OZ Honeymoon Camel Tour DEC 2014Australia is such a large country and we had no idea how to start the process of planning a honeymoon that would cover all the highlights.  The Australia 2000 team took over and created us the most phenomenal, carefree honeymoon we could ask for!  They really  took into account our active lifestyle and personalities to make sure we were busy rafting, scuba diving, hiking, etc. while getting to see several of the diverse ecosystems Geiser & Witherell OZ Honeymoon DEC 2014around Australia.  All in one trip we were able to see Cairns, Ayers Rock, Kangaroo Island, and Sydney!  It was a perfect mix of city and nature with no worries for us as far as logistics of transportation (air, land and sea)!  It was the best decision I could have made to put the planning of this trip in the hands of these talented professionals and I would definitely go to them again for our next adventure (New Zealand is looking pretty awesome…)!

Thank you from Fred Glaeser

I had the pleasure of exploring parts of New Zealand and Australia the entire month of April 2014 on an adventure planned for me by Australia 2000 Travel. Places that were once dots on a map are now cherished memories.

Those of you who are contemplating working with Australia 2000 to craft your own adventure may be asking what travel experiences I’ve had with which to compare the trip in New Zealand and Australia. I am 70 years old and have visited all 50 states of the US and 46 additional countries and territories. I have planned my own trips, used the services of professional travel agents, and enjoyed group tours. My experience with Australia 2000 literally tops the list.

Australia 2000’s knowledgeable staff combined their detailed knowledge of the region with my personal interests to craft a trip that met or exceeded by expectations in every particular. I visited ten cities (all but two for multiple days) and had one overnight cruise. Every connection worked flawlessly. Accommodations were excellent (I wouldn’t hesitate to use the same accommodations on future visits). At three locations I had personal guides, each of whom was exceptional.

If you choose to work with Australia 2000, it is important to commit yourself to a joint planning effort. If you are willing to work with them by communicating your interests, any special requirements, and what you hope to gain from the experience, the staff will work hard to provide an adventure custom-designed to your expectations. In my case, for example, I don’t feel I’ve learned about a city until I’ve walked its streets at different times of day. Australia 2000 selected accommodations that were centrally located in cities and towns, making it possible to begin exploring simply by stepping out my door. Similarly, I love to hike and asked Australia 2000 for opportunities to experience New Zealand’s legendary national parks. I enjoyed three great day hikes, two on my own and one with a professional guide.

On the other hand, Australia 2000’s planners recommended an overnight cruise in New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park, something that wasn’t on my original list of interests. I accepted their recommendation, which turned out to be a high-light of the trip.

Cost is always a consideration when planning trips. I received outstanding value for what I spent on a month-long adventure in a unique part of the world. Pre-paying Australia 2000 for the full cost of the trip (except for meals, personal purchases, and some local transportation) freed me to enjoy the experience, confident that all the large expenses were already covered.

I’ve long wanted to visit the lands “Down-Under”, Australia 2000’s professionals transformed my dream into reality.

Fred Glaeser

Thank you from Marlies and Helmut Kraemer

Hi Karen,

The “Down-Under Travelers” of 2012 have now enjoyed a second trip with Australia 2000 Travel – this time to New Zealand! How can we really thank you for putting together another amazing journey for the Kraemers? The answer became apparent these past few weeks. We spent 5 incredible weeks in New Zealand (February 1 – March 8, 2014) and while the experience was a once in a lifetime, the retelling to friends is a special way of reliving the trip. And that is how we can really thank you. It is an ongoing experience with us every time we get the iPad out and share pictures and memories. And we see the looks on our friends’ faces…..first a bit of envy, then joy, and then….the question….who did you use for this amazing trip? Then we can return the favor and say, well of course, Karen at Australia 2000 Travel! It was also interesting that during our New Zealand travels we met other guests during our stops who upon hearing our itinerary asked that same famous question…..who was your agent? Again, the joy when we could share your information with them!

Kraemer #3 NZ Trip 2014

Our 5 week journey took us from Auckland to Queenstown with our overnights at some of the most beautiful places one can imagine. Though each were wonderful, Helmut and I had some favorites: EdenHouse in the Nelson region, Otahuna Lodge outside of Christchurch, Huka Lodge in the Taupo area, and both the Farm at Cape Kidnappers in Hawke’s Bay and Matakuri Lodge in Queenstown. And we should not forget Mollies in Auckland and Hapuku Lodge in Kaikoura! But a trip is not about lodges, it is about what one learns. We met such wonderful “Kiwis”, hospitable, kind, and fun-loving. We learned so much about New Zealand, its history, culture, and its life today both economically and politically. I have told so many friends that we attended the “University of New Zealand” for 5 weeks!

Kraemer #2 NZ Trip 2014

I must confess that I was a bit hesitant to travel to New Zealand because I am not a “sports” person and rather risk adverse to things that the locals find just plain fun-like jet boat rides and bungee jumping! But one need no athleticism to eat and drink one’s way through New Zealand….only stamina!! With an agro/aquaculture based economy one certainly has access to the best foods in the world. The concept of paddock to table is everywhere and we were in good food withdrawal for days upon our return! The wines…..shall we say most of the good wines remain “home” in New Zealand!

Kraemer NZ Trip 2014

Finally, the natural beauty of New Zealand, alone, is worth a trip. I have likened New Zealand to California on steroids…..ocean, mountains, desert, rainforests, volcanoes, tectonic plates…..you name it, it is there! And the animals….for all my days I will remember my “baby”…..Vortex, the kiwi bird, who has been so fortunate to be in a sanctuary at Cape Kidnappers and be able to grow up in safety in his natural habitat.

In a nutshell, New Zealand touched each one of our senses: our eyes took in the magnificent scenery, our ears heard the calls of native birds and the wind, our noses smelled the beautiful flowers and sheep, our taste buds burst with the amazing flavors of the foods we ate, and our hands touched and felt so much of the texture of this incredible world. All perfection…and because you helped to bring all of that into our lives by paying attention to every detail of our journey. That brings smiles of joy to our faces!

The three pictures say so much…….we enjoyed and we thank you, your US team, and the New Zealand team that made it all a beautiful reality for us!

Fondly…..Marlies and Helmut Kraemer

Good day Karen,

It was lovely meeting with you and sharing our adventures ‘down under’.  My brilliant stories are the result of experiencing a brilliant trip.

Walking Maria Island was a highlight in our trip, only outdone, by our experience on the “Tongariro Crossing”.

Alexis Pone OZ 2014Planning a trip to Australia had been a goal of mine for quite some time, but the task seemed daunting and I was unsure where to even begin. Karen and her team took the time to understand my goals for the trip, the types of activities I was interested in, and the types of flights and accommodations I was looking for to meet my budget. In the end, they planned a wonderful Australian adventure for me and I cannot wait to go back again! This trip may not have happened without their help, and I am incredibly grateful.

Thank you from Lois Carley

Hi Karen!

What an amazing adventure! It was first class all of the way! We truly made memories as a family that will last a lifetime! I can’t thank you enough for all of your planning and preparation that went into this amazing journey. Everything was meticulously arranged in advance and it was absolutely wonderful to have this assurance throughout our vacation.

We stayed in 5 different locations in 3 weeks and they were all so different and so wonderful that we all felt like we had experienced the absolute “best” that Australia had to offer! That was really cool. The resorts that we stayed at were nothing short of spectacular! And the staff at each resort were the best we have ever encountered. We received such unbelievable customer service – it was truly a joy!

Lois Carley OZ - DEC 2013

Wolgan Valley was so beautiful! Steve was able to relax in a day’s time (which is unheard of for him!). God’s country for sure! The kids did the Glow Worm Cave tour and thoroughly enjoyed that! A must see, in their opinion. Our time spent there was to die for!

Next was Southern Ocean Lodge – what an amazing place that was! So remote but so beautiful. Again – the staff were so accommodating and made us feel so comfortable. A spectacular experience all around.

Lois Carley KI OZ - DEC 2013

On to Lizard Island……and the only word that could explain that resort is “WOW”! I could have stayed there forever! We are world travelers but we’ve never been to a more beautiful resort! The staff was unbelievably accommodating and the beaches are unsurpassed in their beauty and privacy. On Christmas Day we took out 2 dinghies and had picnic lunches packed and found our own little private beach! It was a Christmas totally unsurpassed in every way. We will never forget our time spent there. And the weather was just perfect!

The rainforest was so different from the places we had just been to! Silky Oaks Lodge was very special. We loved our rooms and the peacefulness of the surroundings.

Lois Carley LZR Island OZ - DEC 2013

Sydney was a very fun and interesting city. We all enjoyed our time there. The Sydney Bridge Climb was amazing and we’re glad that we did it. And the day spent with Colin on the sailboat was grand! He is such a nice man and totally took great care of all of us. It was so interesting to hear all of the stories he shared with us. It was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed it immensely. He really prepared quite the feast for all of us too! He’s quite the chef! Very fun.

New Year’s Eve was enjoyable as well. Steve and I were invited on the roof of the Shangri-La Hotel by the GM there – so we had a front row seat for the spectacular fireworks! We’ve never seen anything like it and will remember it always. I think we’re ruined for life as far as fireworks go! And last, but not least….the Pub Crawl was AMAZING! Truly the exclamation point of our journey! Our pilot was fun and informative and we got to see parts of Australia that we’d never seen! It was great to experience the local culture of the smaller towns – we absolutely loved every minute of it! What a great day that was!

Lois Carley Helicopter OZ - Dec 2013

I also wanted to express to you how flawlessly our transportation worked throughout our trip. Drivers were prompt and friendly and everything went off without a hitch.

Karen, I really want you to know how much we all enjoyed this “once in a lifetime” experience! You are truly the ultimate professional and for that I thank you! You organized and planned a vacation of a lifetime for us that suited our family to a “T”. We will all remember this forever and the time and work you put into this for us was apparent at every turn. 5 stars!

So many people have asked about our magical trip to Australia and what a dream it is of theirs. You will be the first and only agency that I will recommend to anyone who asks!

All the best!

Lois

Thank you from return travelers Christine Riggle & Faith Gaudaen

Faith and I LOVED our trip. New Zealand was everything we remembered and more.

The Cottage on Waiheke Island was great. Gary and Katy were super nice. So nice they even gave us one of the fish that Gary was smoking when we arrived. We really enjoyed the catamaran charter with Phil and Maire. There wasn’t any air in the morning, but we island hopped until the air picked up and we had a nice sail back to Waiheke.

Christine Riggle & Faith Gaudaen Return Kiwi Adventure 2013 Tim and Janet of Baywicks were as nice as we remembered. Even though it was surprisingly cold during our cruise in Abel Tasman, the captain Rod Stewart still made the trip interesting and fun. We’d like to give a special shot out for Noel Kennedy, our guide in Golden Bay. He and Golden Bay, we think, were the highlight of the trip. We’re so glad you included it in the itinerary. It’s definitely an area we would like to go back to, if we have the chance.

Christine Riggle & Faith Gaudaen Return Kiwi Adventure image 2 2013Although we really enjoyed both of the B&Bs, finishing the trip at the Rees Hotel in Queenstown was very nice and relaxing. The unit even had a fireplace which we made liberal use of on another cold day. The changes at the Rees were a pleasant surprise–expansion of their concierge service and the shuttles to town. The dinner at True North was truly exceptional. Thank you so much for booking it. I’m not sure if we would have gone otherwise.

So we can’t say it enough how much we loved the trip and the people we met (and saw again). Thanks again for arranging another wonderful trip to NZ!

Cheers,

Christine and Faith
