We traveled in New Zealand 10 years ago and Karen planned an amazing 2 weeks in the South Island. She planned an equally amazing three weeks on Australia’s east coast this summer; we booked the trip and left 6 weeks later. She knew we were taking our 9 and 6 year old boys and created an awesome family adventure for us.

BRISBANE: We arrived August 15 to sunshine, palm trees, and found friendly people at every stop. The kids enjoyed the Australia Zoo with our private caddie, feeding the kangaroos and hearing about the animals of Australia. Canungra, at the base of the mountain going to Lamington, is the home of the Funky Dory restaurant. We recommend it for fish-n-chips (Baramundi and Red Emperor were our favorites), squid lips, and an owner who loves what she does. We drove to O’Reilly’s guest house in Lamington National Park and loved the birds, hikes, views and incredible food. The boys were up every morning for a 6:45 a.m. guided bird walk. When our son left his glasses in a restroom, Karen’s assistant in Sydney was able to help us track them down and send them to our next hotel.

Hi Karen,

You did an excellent job figuring out from our conversations which activities we would enjoy; the zookeeper-led tour, the bike tour and the wildlife tour were all a big hit with Peter. Our trip to the Blue Mountains was “self-directed” once we were there, and when we were fogged in on the day we expected to walk along the cliffs, we found we could take a bus tour to the Jenolyn caves. An excellent adventure as well!

Thank you so much!

G’day Karen!

We’ve only been back 2 days and all I can think about is when can we go back? Even with the jetlag, I have to say this was one of the best experiences in my life. I’d like to thank you for all your help in making this a ‘Lifer’ experience for us! So many wonderful memories we’ve brought back, that it’s tough to know where to begin.

Premium Economy seating – While the price tag was higher, the seating was definitely worth the extra cost. So much more comfortable than regular economy seating. And the Qantas staff was fabulous.

Karen,

What a wonderful trip. Only complaint is that it was just too short.

The helicopter ride was great, good time to go at twilight. The surfing lessons at Bondi were so fun. In the down time before the bridge climb we ventured around Sydney. The Taronga Zoo was spectacular. The Sydney Pass was handy for the ferry and the trains to travel all over the city. The Sydney Harbor Bridge Climb is hard to describe. The views are great and the climb was exhilarating.

Kangaroo Island was so incredible. The tour was great; the guide was incredibly knowledgeably about everything, on the island. We did a separate night tour the day we got there. So cool to see the wild animals at night. We would highly recommend going for the 5 pm pelican feeding as well.

Hi Karen and Hillary,

We just returned yesterday from our New Zealand trip and had a wonderful vacation. I have travelled to several countries over the years, but I believe this is was the best vacation I have ever had. You didn’t exaggerate when you described the north island as beautiful and the south island as spectacular. The people were kind and helpful, the accommodations excellent, the food was very good, the itinerary varied and interesting with new adventures each day, and the scenery was truly spectacular. Thanks for arranging such an outstanding trip. Thank you also for your honesty in finding a miscalculation and refunding a portion of our payment.

Karen,

We are back home and feeling just fine!

I want to thank you and your team for putting together such a wonderful trip for all of us. We absolutely loved everything; we met such wonderful people at such an intimate level we felt like old friends. Our guides, Suzanne and Mary Anne could not have been more wonderful. I love those gals and their friends who they so kindly and openly shared with us. I truly love Australia and Australians now and I really knew nothing about you or your country before this trip.

The seaplane ride with Hugh, outstanding, the helicopter ride with Neil, unbelievable. Even though it was raining a bit, Neil and his beautiful helicopter was top notch. We loved Mark and the Blue Mountains. He is a wonderful host and a great chef too.

I love the Southern Ocean Lodge and could stay there for a year. The lodge was wonderful, food, wine, our room, the view, and the day trips. We swam with dolphins at Emu Bay, even though nobody thought it would happen because it was all rainy and dreary but the sun came out for our swim, as did all of the dolphins.

Karen and her staff planned a 1 month New Zealand adventure for our family of 6. She understood our desires and travel style and recommended just the right blend of relaxation, activity, and adventure. We especially enjoyed the wonderful lodging as we made our way around the fantastic country of New Zealand.

Thank you from the Gutmans

Several years ago, Karen and Company at Australia 2000 planned our trip to New Zealand. It was so wonderful that we resolved that when our time came to go to Australia, as it did this past holiday season (2009 – 2010), only Karen would plan it for us. And, once again, the “down under” adventure surpassed our already high expectations. As before, we had an initial meeting with Karen and she homed in on our goals and wishes. In our case, our goal was to come away with a good idea of Australia’s present culture, nature, animals, history, and the people. Not only were we able to do just that, we also returned appreciating the great diversity that makes Australia so unique.

So, from Tasmania to the hot (!) and arid outback of the Flinders Ranges and Alice Springs, to the Daintree Rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef, Kangaroo Island, to several of Australia’s great cities, we flew, hiked, took a train, drove (yikes!), walked and walked and walked, and, best of all, had so many chances to chat and spend great times with Aussies from many diverse walks of life. It was lively, busy, fun, and, yes – even relaxing.

Hi Karen,

Our family had a wonderful time in Australia and would highly recommend Australia 2000 Travel. Everything was so organized and well planned and all the guides and staff were extremely friendly. Though we thoroughly enjoyed everything, some of the highlights were: the Private Tour of Taronga Park Zoo where we got an up-close and hands-on experience with unique animals such as an echidna; seeing the wildlife in the Blue Mountains (kangaroos, platypus, wombats, water lizard, parrots and kookaburras) and fly fishing for carp; sailing on a private chartered boat with Collin in Sydney Harbor for the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race (each of us picked our favorite sail boat to win); and, snorkeling around Hayman Island. Thanks again for an once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will cherish.

Thank you from the Longmonts

We were so impressed with the itinerary and accommodations that Karen planned for our trip to New Zealand. After a brief conversation, she was able to plan a perfect vacation for our interests. We loved our day in Abel Tasman Park gaining different perspectives from a boat ride and hiking the coast. The bed and breakfasts were gorgeous and the owners so friendly and informative. Karen’s connection with Wendy from the Art of Travel located in New Zealand was an important bonus. When we had to alter our plans due to weather, Wendy was able to suggest alternatives and make arrangements. The week was the ultimate combination of privacy and mixing with other travelers and Kiwis. Just tell Karen what you’d like and she will find the best vacation that fits your needs!

Karen and crew,

We can’t tell you enough how very much we enjoyed the wonderful trip that you planned for us! Every detail was fantastic and carefully planned! Following the itinerary and using the voucher system was extremely easy and “comforting”. That itinerary was our security blanket; but we were never nervous or worried about anything while on the trip. We thoroughly enjoyed every day, even our “Days at Leisure”.

The tour operators you use are so professional and friendly!!! Our favorites are Mic and James from Banksia Adventures. What fun! And knowledgeable!

We also loved staying at The Moorings on Waiheke Island and Old Saint Marys Convent. Both venues are unique and fabulous! The owners are also all extremely welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed all of our accommodations. The Sebel Reef House is awesome, as is Binna Burra Mountain Lodge!!!

We can go on and on singing your praises!!! [Read more...]

Just a brief message to let you know that we returned yesterday and that the trip was fabulous. Hotels, tours, guides, logistics were all terrific. I wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed ourselves and the flawless arrangements, not to mention the wonderful Aussie hospitality.

Thanks for making it a great trip for us.

Karen, wow, the trip was wonderful! The tours were lovely – the sail was my favorite (even with the rain) and the girls loved Kangaroo Island. Logistics were perfect and we really appreciate your coordination and planning. The sunset dinner cruise was also a trip highlight.

So, all in all – it was a great trip. The people in Australia were our favorite part – what a friendly bunch they are! It was so refreshing to have the smiles, nods, doors held and greetings of “hello mate”. The people really made the trip special.

Thanks again to you and your booking agents in Australia – every detail was covered and all went perfectly smoothly – what more can you ask for?

I’d be happy to be a reference if I ever could. You did amazing work with little time and a limited budget.

Cheers!

Thank you from Cindy!

Karen,

Although I have never used a travel agent in my travels around the world, at the advice of a friend I consulted Australia 2000 for a trip to Australia to celebrate my niece’s college graduation. The result was nothing short of amazing. While I regularly try to take the road less traveled, with your assistance we were able to experience adventures I am quite sure I would not have been able to find on my own. Particularly amazing was our time in the Daintree Rainforest. Not only were the accomodations at the Eco Lodge amazing but our hunting and gathering tour with Juan, our aborignial guide, was a lesson in history, sustainability and family that cannot be learned until you’ve tromped through the mangroves looking for mudcrabs and mussels, followed up by spearing a mudcrab on the shore.

Thank you so much for listening and understanding the type of trip we were looking for….from adventure to accomodation….and providing us with an experience that neither of us will ever forget.

I’m looking forward to working with you on my future adventures!

Best,

Cindy Talmadge

Karen,

Well, we have been back for awhile from our most excellent adventure in Australia. Our trip really did surpass all expectations and we had such a wonderful time. As with other trips, I have put together a note of the highlights of our trip. Please feel free to read at your leisure or just delete. Part of the reason I like putting together this kind of email is that it allows me to relive our trip a bit. We spent a good part of yesterday looking at our pictures and it was so fun to remind ourselves of all the good times we had. I would like to share them with you so

Several months ago my 8th grade son received a special award which included a trip to Australia.

We had very little knowledge of Australia and very little time to plan. Several families from the school recommended Australia 2000 so we contacted them for help with our travel plans. We were not disappointed! They did a fabulous job of planning our trip.

Australia 2000 tailored the trip to fit our family’s interests and budget. We were given advice and plenty of options, (for where we could save money without hurting our overall experience and where our travel dollars would be best spent). Each tour we took was of the highest quality, our lodging and travel accommodations were outstanding, and we did not have a single hitch during our trip.

We give Australia 2000 our very highest recommendation.

The trip was so exceptional in every way that it was truly The Time of Our Lives!

Last year I decided to keep my longtime promise to an Aussie friend to visit her and her country. Thank goodness I listened when a friend mentioned a travel agency that her friends had raved about, Australia 2000 Travel.

From my first contact with Karen, I was stunned by how determined she was to develop an itinerary that would match our particular desires within the flight schedule I’d already set. Because Australia 2000 Travel’s arrangements were so thorough, so well explained, and so smooth running, we were at ease both before and during the trip, able to stay focused on the present activity with no concern about what would follow. Even our taciturn Aussie friend, who was included in part of our itinerary, frequently remarked how impressed she was by Australia 2000′s work, how worthwhile each tour was, how perfectly the hotels matched our needs, how smoothly the trip progressed. Frequently a guide would say something that made me realize how much respect Australia 2000 Travel has earned among those in the travel industry. I believe that’s why I’m able to say that every single person that Australia 2000 Travel brought us in contact with was courteous, conscientious, and a delight to be with.

We rarely use travel agents, but decided to consider one for our trip to a very distant country, New Zealand, during the holiday season. Little did we know that finding Australia 2000 Travel and Karen Hodgson to design our itinerary would be such a lucky move.

Karen and her staff are Australia/New Zealand specialists, with years of experience Down Under and a well-developed set of contacts. As a result, incredibly, there is not one aspect of our 3-week travel to and within New Zealand that did not go smoothly. All the bed and breakfast hosts and hostesses were charming and helpful, all the activities were run by people who knew exactly what their participants wanted and needed, drivers were prompt and courteous, even the “days at leisure” were well-scheduled to provide relaxing breaks from preplanned days.

Hi Karen,

We have just returned from our holiday in New Zealand and Australia and couldn’t be happier. This trip was even better than I anticipated. Everything went very smoothly and all the tours we took were fantastic. Our tour guides were so knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects that it made all the information come alive. Our complements to you for finding such fascinating people.

New Zealand turned out to be more beautiful than everyone told us it would be. As we headed south from Auckland it just got better and better. By the time we got to Queenstown the scenery was gorgeous, even if it did rain and have snow on the mountaintop.

Dear Karen,

Just a note to thank you again for making our recent trip “Down Under” so wonderfully! You did a great job in finding all the right accommodations, locations, tours, drivers, and suggested sights to see on our own. The pace of the trip was perfect and all arrangements went smoothly. We saw so many beautiful sights and met so many interesting people. We will definitely recommend you to all of our friends.
