Our trip was organized by Karen Hodgson and her brilliant team of professionals. Our trip was tailored to suit our requirements. It is a “bespoke” vacation for the individual taste of a couple or any number of travelers. Karen organizes customized vacations to Australia/New Zealand/South East Asia. My wife and I are in our 60’s, so we are limited to what we can physically do but are not disabled. All the designated times of pick-up, no matter how early in the morning to take us to the airport/train station, they were there! Even by BMW 7 series!! How good is that? Australia 2000 Travel is exceptional in its professionalism. They seem to have an invisible team of people who just turn up at the appropriate time to transport you to your next destination with effortless ease!! I cannot say enough about this company!! Karen is “off the scale professional” …. she is an “Ozzy” and knows everything about Australia and New Zealand! I recommend “Australia 2000Travel” to anybody who wishes to experience an adventure to the lands “Down Under”. Whether you wish to travel with 40 other people or even alone…. she will organize a trip to suit you. “Australia 2000 Travel” is off the scale.

Whether we had a private tour or joined with others, all the selected tour guides were personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoyable to spend time with. Australia 2000 made this the adventure of a lifetime. Thanks, Adrea and David Benkoff
Our family had a wonderful time in Australia, and would highly recommend Australia 2000 Travel. Everything was so organized and well planned, and all the guides and staff were extremely friendly. Thanks again for a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will cherish. Rich, Susan and Rachel Redelfs
As Camilla and I wait to board our plane from New Zealand for a long journey home, we write to thank you for putting together a most wonderful six week adventure in Australia and New Zealand. It’s difficult to choose a favorite spot. I have been to a lot of spectacularly beautiful places in the world but none surpass Lord Howe Island off the coast of New South Wales.
When flying from Sydney to New Zealand we thought nothing could possibly top our initial three weeks in Australia. We left with such a love for your country and an appreciation for every single excellent accommodation you provided us. Now as we discuss it, we cannot choose between the two countries. Apples and oranges but equally sweet. We leave New Zealand with so much appreciation for this place . . . the beauty just never ends.
Although we were initially worried about all the strenuous activities you had scheduled for us we are extremely glad we missed none of them. Each hike turned out to be truly memorable – especially the three days on the Routeburn Track that was simply spectacular. Every kayak experience was stunning. We were apprehensive about the seven hour caving and rock climbing adventure in Waitomo but loved it. We had never done anything like that before. It was exhilarating, thrilling and we were captivated by the beautiful glow worms. It was like looking at the Galaxy on a beautiful clear night.
This photo is a view from our fabulous cottage at Bay of Many Coves. Another winner. I’ve traveled a lot and this adventure is up there with my best.
You did a great job!

“Hi Karen, We’re back! You put together a wonderful itinerary for us. The honeymoon was fantastic, wonderful and spectacular!!! Did I mention that we really enjoyed ourselves??? Everything went off without a hitch. Your staff we met throughout our journey couldn’t have been any friendlier! We felt relaxed and at ease our entire trip. We hope to come back some day! Thank you so much for a wonderful and unforgettable three weeks.” Dan & Erin Garfin
“Australia is such a large country and we had no idea how to start the process of planning a honeymoon that would cover all the highlights. The Australia 2000 team took over and created us the most phenomenal, carefree honeymoon we could ask for! They really took into account our active lifestyle and personalities to make sure we were busy rafting, scuba diving, hiking, etc. while getting to see several of the diverse ecosystems around Australia. All in one trip we were able to see Cairns, Ayers Rock, Kangaroo Island, and Sydney! It was a perfect mix of city and nature with no worries for us as far as logistics of transportation (air, land and sea)! It was the best decision I could have made to put the planning of this trip in the hands of these talented professionals and I would definitely go to them again for our next adventure (New Zealand is looking pretty awesome…)!” Crystal & Dave Geiser
“Hi Karen! Passing through the Adelaide Airport and just wanted to let you and the team know we are having an amazing adventure. Everything has been perfect.” Greg & Ashley Walker
“Much appreciation on the hard work of setting up our honeymoon. We had such a great time and felt that Australia became a part of us. We just did not want to leave. We will have memories for a lifetime.” Aaron & Anna Spork
“We had such an amazing trip to New Zealand that we didn’t want to come home! The food was great and the atmosphere everywhere we went was so hospitable and inviting! Everyone was very nice and gave us well wishes on our recent marriage. We definitely want to go back and see some of the places we didn’t get to this time. Thanks again for organizing this trip for us. It will truly be something we will never forget.” Mike & Jess Wiley
I had the pleasure of exploring parts of New Zealand and Australia the entire month of April 2014 on an adventure planned for me by Australia 2000 Travel. Places that were once dots on a map are now cherished memories.
Those of you who are contemplating working with Australia 2000 to craft your own adventure may be asking what travel experiences I’ve had with which to compare the trip in New Zealand and Australia. I am 70 years old and have visited all 50 states of the US and 46 additional countries and territories. I have planned my own trips, used the services of professional travel agents, and enjoyed group tours. My experience with Australia 2000 literally tops the list.
Australia 2000’s knowledgeable staff combined their detailed knowledge of the region with my personal interests to craft a trip that met or exceeded by expectations in every particular. I visited ten cities (all but two for multiple days) and had one overnight cruise. Every connection worked flawlessly. Accommodations were excellent (I wouldn’t hesitate to use the same accommodations on future visits). At three locations I had personal guides, each of whom was exceptional.
If you choose to work with Australia 2000, it is important to commit yourself to a joint planning effort. If you are willing to work with them by communicating your interests, any special requirements, and what you hope to gain from the experience, the staff will work hard to provide an adventure custom-designed to your expectations. In my case, for example, I don’t feel I’ve learned about a city until I’ve walked its streets at different times of day. Australia 2000 selected accommodations that were centrally located in cities and towns, making it possible to begin exploring simply by stepping out my door. Similarly, I love to hike and asked Australia 2000 for opportunities to experience New Zealand’s legendary national parks. I enjoyed three great day hikes, two on my own and one with a professional guide.
On the other hand, Australia 2000’s planners recommended an overnight cruise in New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park, something that wasn’t on my original list of interests. I accepted their recommendation, which turned out to be a high-light of the trip.
Cost is always a consideration when planning trips. I received outstanding value for what I spent on a month-long adventure in a unique part of the world. Pre-paying Australia 2000 for the full cost of the trip (except for meals, personal purchases, and some local transportation) freed me to enjoy the experience, confident that all the large expenses were already covered.
I’ve long wanted to visit the lands “Down-Under”, Australia 2000’s professionals transformed my dream into reality.
Planning a trip to Australia had been a goal of mine for quite some time, but the task seemed daunting and I was unsure where to even begin. Karen and her team took the time to understand my goals for the trip, the types of activities I was interested in, and the types of flights and accommodations I was looking for to meet my budget. In the end, they planned a wonderful Australian adventure for me and I cannot wait to go back again! This trip may not have happened without their help, and I am incredibly grateful.
What an amazing adventure! It was first class all of the way! We truly made memories as a family that will last a lifetime! I can’t thank you enough for all of your planning and preparation that went into this amazing journey. Everything was meticulously arranged in advance and it was absolutely wonderful to have this assurance throughout our vacation.
We stayed in 5 different locations in 3 weeks and they were all so different and so wonderful that we all felt like we had experienced the absolute “best” that Australia had to offer! That was really cool. The resorts that we stayed at were nothing short of spectacular! And the staff at each resort were the best we have ever encountered. We received such unbelievable customer service – it was truly a joy!
Wolgan Valley was so beautiful! Steve was able to relax in a day’s time (which is unheard of for him!). God’s country for sure! The kids did the Glow Worm Cave tour and thoroughly enjoyed that! A must see, in their opinion. Our time spent there was to die for!
Next was Southern Ocean Lodge – what an amazing place that was! So remote but so beautiful. Again – the staff were so accommodating and made us feel so comfortable. A spectacular experience all around.
On to Lizard Island……and the only word that could explain that resort is “WOW”! I could have stayed there forever! We are world travelers but we’ve never been to a more beautiful resort! The staff was unbelievably accommodating and the beaches are unsurpassed in their beauty and privacy. On Christmas Day we took out 2 dinghies and had picnic lunches packed and found our own little private beach! It was a Christmas totally unsurpassed in every way. We will never forget our time spent there. And the weather was just perfect!
The rainforest was so different from the places we had just been to! Silky Oaks Lodge was very special. We loved our rooms and the peacefulness of the surroundings.
Sydney was a very fun and interesting city. We all enjoyed our time there. The Sydney Bridge Climb was amazing and we’re glad that we did it. And the day spent with Colin on the sailboat was grand! He is such a nice man and totally took great care of all of us. It was so interesting to hear all of the stories he shared with us. It was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed it immensely. He really prepared quite the feast for all of us too! He’s quite the chef! Very fun.
New Year’s Eve was enjoyable as well. Steve and I were invited on the roof of the Shangri-La Hotel by the GM there – so we had a front row seat for the spectacular fireworks! We’ve never seen anything like it and will remember it always. I think we’re ruined for life as far as fireworks go! And last, but not least….the Pub Crawl was AMAZING! Truly the exclamation point of our journey! Our pilot was fun and informative and we got to see parts of Australia that we’d never seen! It was great to experience the local culture of the smaller towns – we absolutely loved every minute of it! What a great day that was!
I also wanted to express to you how flawlessly our transportation worked throughout our trip. Drivers were prompt and friendly and everything went off without a hitch.
Karen, I really want you to know how much we all enjoyed this “once in a lifetime” experience! You are truly the ultimate professional and for that I thank you! You organized and planned a vacation of a lifetime for us that suited our family to a “T”. We will all remember this forever and the time and work you put into this for us was apparent at every turn. 5 stars!
So many people have asked about our magical trip to Australia and what a dream it is of theirs. You will be the first and only agency that I will recommend to anyone who asks!
All the best!
Our two week Australia/New Zealand adventure experience was truly one of the finest vacations either of us has ever had. Karen and her Michigan office and international staffs executed a fine-tuned, action-packed, successive whirlwind that we slept dead 12 of the 14 return hour flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles. Exploring the north Sydney beaches on Harleys, flying low along the Sydney beaches in a sea plane, climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, swimming in the Coral Sea with three sharks, sand boarding, New Zealand jet boating, paddling the Waka (Mori outrigger), gazing in awe walking the Milford Track, mountain biking down a 3,000 foot mountain to downtown Nelson, hiking the Abel Tasman and Heaphy Traks, climbing active volcanoes of New Zealand’s north island, and chartering 11 helicopters, 3 planes, and a sea plane are just some of the excitement included in Karen’s adventure itinerary.
Now to the hotels. Wow! Park Hyatt in Sydney, Eichardt’s Private Hotel in Queenstown, Edenhouse near Nelson, Peppers Awaroa Lodge in Abel Tasman National Park are just a few of the perfectly suited for the experience and location we enjoyed. Even with walking/trekking, mountain biking, paddling a Waka, and climbing mountains, we still gained an average of 7.5 pounds each; enough said on the naturally nutritious, delicious, and extremely well-presented food.
We spent nearly two years working with Karen to get the trip we wanted. Gerald wanted to end his 60s with a bang and Siamak just lives life with a bang. Together we all pulled it together, but the nucleus was Karen and her staff. Thank you.
Gerald Fuller and Siamak Gholami
We traveled to Australia and New Zealand for 3 ½ weeks on a spectacular tour tailored to our tastes. We hopscotched around Australia from Sydney to Cairns, Ayers Rock to Kangaroo Island. Every stop included personalized tours, wonderful people and terrific wildlife experiences. We even spent a day in Barossa wine country sampling from four wineries.
The scenery in New Zealand was picture postcard perfect. The experiences that Karen provided in Arthur’s Pass, Queenstown and Doubtful Sound highlighted the natural beauty and provided exciting activities such as a Jet Boat Ride, overnight cruise and sheep shearing. We toured with an Aboriginal and Maori guide and experienced their lifestyle first hand.
Whether we had a private tour or joined with others, all the selected tour guides were personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoyable to spend time with.
Australia 2000 made this the adventure of a lifetime.
Thanks, Adrea and David Benkoff
Our 2nd trip with Australia 2000 once again exceeded all expectations. We didn’t want to come home! You have a great gift for understanding our personalities and matching the itinerary and adventures!
Sailing in Sydney Harbor with Colin was a great way to start our fabulous trip and climbing the bridge showed us a most spectacular view of Sydney at twilight. David loved all the fishing trips but the marlin got away so he may just have to go back and try again! The Maria Island Walk was one of many highlights and we loved sleeping outdoors in a most gorgeous place.
Hiking along the Great Ocean Road and dinner at The Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld made my birthday the BEST ever! Staying at Stranrear Homestead on Kangaroo Island with Lyn and Graham showed us another side of life in Australia, a working sheep farm. After dinner, Graham took us out in his land rover to spot kangaroos and wallabies. Lyn should make the list for top chefs in the world! The hospitality and gourmet meals at Stranrear made us feel very special. Actually every day of our trip made us feel happy and very special!
Our memories of the wonderful adventures you planned keep us smiling! Thank you for making our 2nd trip with Australia 2000 one we will always remember.
We want to go again!
Marnie and David Balog
We wanted to send you a note to bring you up to date on the progress of our trip. We arrived in Hobart this morning (Sat., Feb. 9) and had the good fortune of this being the town’s Market Day with lots of activities in the town center. It is also the occasion of the World Wooden Ship Festival in Hobart Harbor (3 days every two years).
We received your wonderful fruit basket upon our arrival in Sydney after our cruises to New Zealand and New Caledonia Islands. We have enjoyed some of the fruit each day. Your thoughtfulness is most appreciated. (Our tour guide) Suzanne was a most delightful, informative and personable guide on our tours of the environs of Sydney and the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park north of Sydney. She sends you her greetings.
Each link of our trip has flowed perfectly, thanks to your planning and arrangements. An unexpected delight has been the friendliness and helpfulness of strangers asking if there is anything they can do to help us when we look confused or lost.
We really appreciate having the Grace Hotel as our center of operations in Sydney. This Hotel is first class in every way….great staff people, available laundry, wonderful breakfasts, luxurious atmosphere, walking distance to places of interest. We really enjoyed our tours of the Sydney Opera House yesterday morning and attending the Verdi opera last night.
We look forward to our 3 day walk on Maria Island beginning tomorrow, and the experiences waiting for us at Port Arthur and Adelaide. We are grateful for this adventure you have organized for us.
Dave & Nona Church
We are still glowing as a result of our great trip last fall. I finally got around (these things always take time) to putting together a little memento of our trip in the form of a book. As you will see from the cover, we thought the picture with Neville was a highlight for us representing the spirit and strength of what we saw and learned about the more remote but fascinating parts of Australia.
As I told you before, when you suggested numerous ideas about where to go and what to see “off the beaten track”, with the idea that we pick among them – and we then basically selected all of them – we were so glad that we did. It became a most memorable experience. Perhaps as impressive as the places we visited were the many guides and hosts wherever we stayed. They were all friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and really made every adventure special.
Please enjoy the book and feel free to use any of it in communicating with clients and potentials clients. If the opportunity comes up, please relay our gratitude to the many nice people who hosted, helped and guided us along the way.
Thanks again and a belated Happy New Year and all good wishes for a healthy and happy 2013.
The trip that you planned for our family was so incredible. It exceeded all our expectations. The adventures that you created for us were once in a lifetime experiences.
Thank you so much for your guidance.
It’s finally here, the year that “baby boomers” begin to retire. Baby boomers, defined as individuals born post World War II during the “baby boom” between the years 1946-1964, have begun to turn 65 this year and this article brings to light the many ways in which “boomers” are carefully considering their future.
“It’s no surprise that today’s boomers are planning to work longer than earlier generations of retirement age. What’s interesting is that they’re not doing so just because they need the money. They also want to stay stimulated and engaged.” read entire article
It’s been presumed that “boomers” grew up in an age of privilege, were the healthiest and wealthiest generation of their time and considered themselves “special” to the generations of those that had come before. They grew up in a rising era of technology and medical accomplishments, have worked hard to provide for their families and vigilantly saved for the “retirement years”.
